What we collect

Your account

We collect the information needed to create and maintain your Daymark account, such as your email address and authentication information.

If you choose Sign in with Apple, we receive the information Apple makes available to us for authentication. This may include your name and email address or an Apple-provided private relay email address.

Your journal

Daymark may store information you choose to create or keep in the app, including:

  • journal entries;

  • answers to prompts and guided reflections;

  • Inner Weather check-ins;

  • Gratitude and Joy reflections;

  • My Compass responses;

  • tags and suggested tags;

  • monthly and yearly reflections;

  • Mirror feedback and saved insights;

  • photographs;

  • voice recordings.

Your journal is private by default.

Daymark does not make your journal publicly available.

Where Daymark allows you to share selected content, you choose what is shared and when.

Photos

If you add a photograph to Daymark, it is processed on your device before upload.

Daymark resizes and re-encodes the image, removing embedded EXIF information such as GPS location and camera metadata. Only the processed image is uploaded and stored.

Photos are kept as part of your private journal.

Photos are not sent to the Mirror for AI processing.

Voice recordings

If you choose to make a voice recording, Daymark stores the recording as audio.

Daymark does not transcribe your voice recordings, create text from them, or send them to a transcription service.

Voice recordings are not sent to the Mirror for AI processing.

Subscription information

Daymark may receive information about your Daymark Plus subscription, such as:

  • whether your subscription is active;

  • the subscription product you purchased;

  • renewal status;

  • transaction identifiers.

Payments made through the Apple App Store are processed by Apple.

Daymark does not receive your full payment-card details.

Daymark uses RevenueCat to manage subscription status and entitlements.

Technical information

We process limited technical information needed to operate and secure Daymark, such as:

  • device type;

  • operating system;

  • app version;

  • login and authentication information;

  • technical information needed to maintain the service.

Daymark does not use third-party advertising trackers, behavioural analytics or third-party crash-reporting tools.

We do not track you across other apps or websites.

We do not sell personal information to data brokers.

The Mirror and AI

The Mirror and certain optional reflective features use artificial intelligence.

These may include:

  • Mirror reflections;

  • monthly reflections;

  • yearly reflections;

  • suggested tags;

  • other AI-assisted reflections clearly identified within Daymark.

AI features are optional.

Before journal content is used for these features, Daymark asks for your consent.

When you use an AI feature, only the information reasonably necessary to provide that reflection is sent for processing.

Depending on the feature, this may include:

  • the journal entry being reflected on;

  • selected recent entries;

  • relevant Inner Weather check-ins;

  • relevant tags;

  • My Compass responses;

  • previously identified or user-confirmed themes.

Daymark is designed to minimise the amount of journal information sent for AI processing.

Photos and voice recordings are not sent to the Mirror.

Daymark currently uses Anthropic, the developer of Claude, to provide AI features.

Under Anthropic's commercial terms, customer inputs and outputs are not used to train its models by default. Information may be retained by Anthropic for a limited period in accordance with its commercial privacy and retention terms.

Daymark does not opt your journal content into general-purpose AI model training.

You can use Daymark without the Mirror.

You may withdraw your consent to optional AI processing at any time through your account settings.

Sensitive information

A private journal may naturally contain sensitive information, including information about:

  • physical or mental health;

  • emotions;

  • relationships;

  • sexuality;

  • beliefs;

  • identity;

  • family;

  • work;

  • finances;

  • other areas of private life.

We treat journal content as sensitive.

We process journal information as necessary to provide the service you have requested.

Where optional processing of sensitive personal information requires consent under applicable law, including use of journal information for AI-assisted reflection, we rely on your explicit consent.

You may withdraw that consent at any time.

Withdrawal of consent does not affect processing that lawfully occurred before consent was withdrawn.

Why we use your information

We use personal information only for purposes connected with providing and operating Daymark.

To provide Daymark

This includes:

  • creating and maintaining your account;

  • storing and displaying your journal;

  • syncing journal information;

  • storing photographs and voice recordings;

  • providing search and journal-history features;

  • providing On This Day and other memory features;

  • providing reminders;

  • providing features you choose to use.

Where applicable, our legal basis is performance of our contract with you.

To provide optional AI features

This includes the Mirror and other AI-assisted reflections you choose to use.

Where applicable, our legal basis is your consent and, where required for sensitive information, your explicit consent.

To manage subscriptions

We process subscription status so that Daymark can determine which features you are entitled to use.

Where applicable, our legal basis is performance of our contract with you.

To keep Daymark secure and working

We may process limited technical information for authentication, security, fraud prevention and service reliability.

Where applicable, our legal basis is our legitimate interest in operating a safe and reliable service.

To comply with legal obligations

We may retain or disclose limited information where required by applicable law.

Who processes information for us

We use a limited number of service providers to operate Daymark.

These may include:

Cloud infrastructure and private storage providers

Used to operate Daymark's servers, database and private file storage, including storage of journal information, photos and voice recordings.

Anthropic

Used for optional AI features such as the Mirror.

RevenueCat

Used to manage Daymark Plus subscription status and entitlements.

Apple

Used for App Store distribution, App Store payments and Sign in with Apple where you choose that method.

Email delivery provider

Used where necessary to send service-related communications and, where you deliberately choose to share material connected to coaching, to deliver those communications.

Service providers are permitted to process information only as necessary to perform the services they provide to us, subject to applicable agreements and law.

Private coaching

Private one-to-one coaching is available only to active Daymark Plus members.

Coaching is purchased separately. It is not included in the Daymark Plus subscription price and is not included in the Daymark Plus free trial.

Your coach does not automatically have access to:

  • your journal;

  • Mirror history;

  • photos;

  • voice recordings;

  • My Compass responses;

  • other private journal information.

You decide what, if anything, you share.

Appointments may be booked through Acuity Scheduling / Squarespace Scheduling.

Information you provide directly when booking is processed under the applicable booking provider's privacy terms.

International transfers

Some of our service providers may process information outside France or the European Economic Area.

Where required by law, international transfers are protected using appropriate safeguards, which may include the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or another legally recognised transfer mechanism.

How long we keep your information

Your journal information is kept for as long as you maintain your Daymark account, unless you delete particular content earlier.

When you shred an entry, Daymark deletes the associated journal data and any photo or voice files belonging to that entry from active storage.

When you delete an individual photo or voice recording, the associated stored file is deleted from active storage.

When you delete your account, Daymark deletes your journal entries, reflections, My Compass responses, tags, photos, voice recordings and other journal content from active systems.

Some information may remain temporarily in infrastructure backups until those backups expire under our service providers' normal retention schedules.

We may also retain limited information where required by law, for example records relating to financial transactions.

Deleting your Daymark account does not automatically cancel an active App Store subscription. Subscriptions must be cancelled through your Apple account.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights including the right to:

  • access your personal information;

  • correct inaccurate information;

  • receive a copy of your information;

  • export your journal;

  • request deletion;

  • restrict certain processing;

  • object to certain processing;

  • withdraw consent;

  • request data portability.

You can delete journal content and your account using the controls provided within Daymark.

You may also contact us at:

hello@daymarkjournal.com

If you are in France or another EU country, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your data-protection authority.

In France, the supervisory authority is the CNIL.

Age

Daymark is intended only for people aged 18 or over.

We do not knowingly provide Daymark accounts to children.

If we become aware that someone under 18 has created an account, we may take steps to close the account and delete the associated information.

Security

Daymark uses technical and organisational measures intended to protect your journal and personal information.

Journal information is transmitted using encrypted connections and stored in systems with restricted access.

Photos and voice recordings are kept in private storage and accessed through controlled, time-limited mechanisms where applicable.

No online service can guarantee absolute security.

If a personal-data breach occurs that requires notification under applicable law, we will notify affected users and the appropriate authorities as required.

Exporting your journal

Where available within Daymark, you can export your journal so that you can retain a copy outside the service.

Your journal remains your content.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as Daymark develops.

If we make a material change affecting how your personal information is used, we will provide appropriate notice, which may include notice within the app.
